Mental Health Workshop
C-ASIST will be hosting a community event on mental illness awareness, substance abuse and addiction, and suicide prevention that will be held at the Islamic Institute of Knowledge in Dearborn on August 6th 2016 and August 7th 2016.
While the event will focus on all age groups, a major stimulus for the event is the rising incidence of addiction and suicide among Arab-American youth. The Middle Eastern culture can often be a barrier to an open conversation about mental illness and the goal of the event is to begin to overcome the stigma that exists. The event will include presentations, workshops and other interactive approaches to engage the community in a discussion about these issues.
A walk to raise awareness is scheduled on 8/7 followed by a community picnic . Students for different universities will participate and will represent their entities . Food and activities will be provided as well.
